Self-Portrait – 1960 / Autorretrato – 1960

An early self portrait of a young shirtless Eduardo with dark hair and a brick red background. Carrillo studied Spanish masters such as Velázquez and the more contemporary Picasso. Here you can see that influence in the cubist set of his face from two angles as well as the lighting. When in comparison with his earlier 1958 self-portrait, you can see Carrillo’s own personal style emerging from these influences and beginning to come into his own.
